12/13/2017 0 Comments Weekly Link #1This is the first of what will hopefully become a regular series highlighting online resources that may be of interest to SHHS students and teachers. You can also check out the library's Pinterest board to explore these resources. My first pick: The Carleton College Gould Library's Veronica Butcher Fake Sources Collection.

11/28/2017 0 Comments Book Review Roundup #1Here are my thoughts on some books I've read recently. Since South Hadley's mascot is a tiger, our student-run newspaper Spotlight uses a 1-5 paw rating system to review books and movies. I deemed it appropriate to use the same approach for my reviews! 1 Paw = Don’t Leave the Den 2 Paws = Find Better Prey 3 Paws = Pursue It 4 Paws = Pounce On It 5 Paws = Devour It! Disclaimer: These reviews are just my personal opinions. They do not reflect the viewpoint of South Hadley High School. What appeals to me may not appeal to someone else, and that's okay! Everyone has their own tastes. My goal in reviewing books is simply to encourage reading for pleasure.
11/27/2017 0 Comments Welcome!Welcome to the Lyman Library Bulletin - South Hadley High School Library's very own blog, written by your librarian, Ms. Forfa. If you haven't stepped foot inside a library in a while, you may be inclined to believe that libraries are silent rooms, stuffed to the brim with dusty books. You may be picturing a crabby old librarian shushing students and demanding late fines. If this is your notion of school libraries, let me be the first to tell you that a lot has changed! Lyman Library is a lively, bustling hub of activity. Come in at 7:00 AM, you'll see a flurry of students finishing homework and printing papers. Stop by at 9:00 AM, you might get to sit in on a freshman class doing an escape room activity for library orientation. Visit us at 12:45 PM and you may run into an AP Bio class completing research on the library databases for a project. Check back after school and you'll see groups of students reading, studying, and relaxing after a long day of school. Every day is different in the library, and that's by design! On any given day, over 200 students pass through the library doors. Our space and resources are used by students, teachers, and the greater community in all sorts of ways, and the library is WAY more than just a room full of books.
The goal of this blog is to document the library's day-to-day adventures. It will also serve as my professional diary of sorts, as I plan to highlight some of the lessons, collaborative projects, and initiatives that happen throughout the school year. Check back often for announcements, book reviews, and more! |
